Have a Narwhal of a Time

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

The challenge this week over on the Lawnscaping Challenge blog is to use text.

Narwhal Card

I use two Lawn Fawn stamp sets, Critters in the Sea and Critters Ever After. I wanted to turn my cute whale into an even cuter Narwhal (If you don’t know these are whales that have one large spiral horn on the top of their head, I love them) so I added the horn from the unicorn stamp to turn him into one.

narwhal steps

I started by curving the text stamp into a wave shape, I love the flexibility of clear stamps! Then I stamped it repeatedly onto vellum paper and cut it out with a wave shape at the top.

narwhal steps

I then stamped my whale into polka dot pattern paper (My Mind’s Eye) cut it out and inked the edges using a sponge dauber.

narwhal steps

I stamped just the top of the unicorn onto scrap brown paper twice and cut out the horns, layering them to make one longer horn. And glued it to the whale’s head.

I adhered my vellum paper onto striped pattern paper (also My Mind’s Eye) and blue cardstock, putting the adhesive on the vellum where the ribbon would go so it wouldn’t show. Then wrapped the ribbon around adding a knot and button. I adhered those layers to my brown cardstock base.

Lastly I stamped stars and colored them with a glitter gel pen and tucked the Narwhal a little under the vellum. I think he turned out so cute!

Cutting Up

Monday, September 17th, 2012

Made some cute cards with my new Cricut Mini die cutting machine. I like this mini machine better than any of the other Cricuts I’ve tried. It hooks to your computer and it’s so much easier to see what you’re doing, change sizes and make adjustments on the computer screen.

I love this cool Bride of Frankenstein, she’s from the Movable Monsters collection.

This cute owl come from the Create a Critter cartridge, it has such adorable animals and accessories to go with them.

Ooky Spooky

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Been playing around with more new Halloween stamps from Inkadinkado.

Voodoo Charms Necklace

I’m in love with the Voodoo Doll stamps, a cute witch and funky cat. I thought they’d make perfect shrink plastic charms so I stamped them on white shrink plastic using Staz-On ink, colored them with colored pencils, punched a hole for the jump rings and strung them on a chain. I also added a small domino with the word “Voodoo”.

Death Head Moth Collage

This Death Head Moth stamp is spooky but also seemed a little vintage to me, like an insect specimen so I made a collage with a vintage feel with it. It’s on layers of pattern paper embellished with vintage lace, a vintage button and a chipboard label with brads.

Sinister Trick or Treat Bag Card

This X-Ray of a Trick or Treat bag is just so evil! Along with the candy there is a razor blade in the apple, brass knuckles and a big knife. Probably not a stamp for everyone but I like twisted things so I think it’s really cool 🙂 I added some poison labels cut from some pattern paper and added the color tinting with small sponges and ink.

Spending Time with Company

K and Company that is 🙂 I recently got an amazing box full of goodies from K and Co. to review at Craft Gossip from their brand new “Beyond Postmarks” line. It’s got a bunch of cool cards and embellishments that move, pull out, pop up, etc. really cool.

Here are the cards I made, quick and easy but so fun.

Potions Class

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

I envision this scene happening in Snape classroom at Hogwarts 🙂

The current challenge at Lawnscaping is to make your own pattern paper. I used three different Lawn Fawn sets for my card, the broom from Making Frosty Friends, the witches hat and top hat from Hats off to You and the frog (toad), stars, flames and wand from Critters Ever After. I made two pattern papers, the purple uses stars from the Critters Ever After set and the stone wall paper is made from the top hat from Hats Off to You. I used a post it note to mask off the bottom part of the hat and stamped the top half for my stones (see pics below). Everything is colored with colored pencils and blended with Gamsol. The cauldron die cut is from Silhouette.

Trick or Treat

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

For me it’s never too early for Halloween! Last week a got a big box of amazing new Halloween stamps from Inkadinkado to review for Craft Gossip. I love every stamp I got, lots of creepy, spooky images! Here’s a couple of my first projects, I’ll have more in the upcoming weeks.

For this ATC I stamped the image twice, once in black and one in red, cutting out the words and apple from the red and layering on top of the black. I colored my witch green and added some glaze to the apple to make it shiny.

Green Witch Art Card

For this card I wanted to make my tarantula fuzzy so I used brown flocking powder. So I could get the stamped image and the flocking at the same time I first inked up the stamp with brown ink then inked it again with a glue pad and then stamped it. I then poured on the flocking, tapped it down then tapped off the excess. If you do this be sure to quickly wipe the colored ink from your glue pad so it won’t stain it.
