My Collagey Valentine

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Made a couple of collage art Valentine cards today.

The first one is an image of a vintage couple, I mounted them on scallop edged black paper to look more like the old photos that have that type of edge, added some vintage lace and a pink paper heart with the word “love” cut from an old book. The background is vintage music paper that’s been stitched onto cardstock on my sewing machine and then mounted onto a pink card. There is also an old looking key tied with pink rick rack ribbon. The inside of the cards says “You hold the key to my HEART”

The next one is another of my felt owls (I’ve done other cards and ATC’s with him) sitting on a stamped branch, he’s also on vintage music paper surrounded by falling pink stamped hearts that’s stitched onto cardstock and mounted on a pink card. The outside says “Whooo Loves You” and the inside says “I do!”.

All stamps used are by Close To My Heart

Here are some Halloween ATC’s I did, using a mixture of collage and stamping, plus I used my new sewing machine (yeah!) to stitch around two of them. The black cat one is called “Fraidy Cat” and features a real German paper scrap. The witch class is called “Be Unique” and features an old school class photo that I turned into Mrs. Warts first grade spells class where all the students are wearing their black hats except for Alice who is wearing a pretty pink hat with a sparkle on top. The “Pumpkin Fairy” features and old photo of a little girl with a carved pumpkin, I added bat wings to her to make her a cool little fairy. The other is called “Poe” and features a stamped image of Edgar Allen Poe with a raven on his head and the words “Nevermore” and some different alphabet beads spell out “Poe”. I also made a neat little envelope box out of cardstock and pattern paper that ties closed with a ribbon, perfect for storing your ATC’s in.

I love painted images from field guides, birds, bees, butterflies, they are so cool. I have one book that has some great bird images so I made copies and cut them out and collage them on some cute tags. I die cut and embossed the edges of the tags, the circles are real pages from an old text book, the scalloped base is made from thick textured cardstock, I added ink to the edges too to make them look even more aged. Then I punched a hole and looped some ribbon through. They would make great gift tags, bookmarks or they’d be really cute tied to the branches of a tree.

I’m loving the new trend with Owls! My grandmother, who passed away when I was 13, collected owls and so they always remind me of her:)

Here’s a postcard collage I did cutting the owl from felt (also a very hot trend right now). The background is cardstock and a page from an old text book, edges inked. The flowers are cut from felt using a Cuttlebug die cutting machine and attached with brads. The branch and leaves are rubber stamps.

This one is a greeting card. I blanket stitched around the owl this time with pearl cotton, took awhile:) I cut free hand the limb from textured cardstock and sanded it for a more realistic look. The background is cardstock and scrapbook paper that looks like music sheets. The hearts are cut free hand from felt and sewn on through the buttons. The words are done stamps.
