Into the Woods

September 4th, 2013

Sorry it’s been so long between posts, hubby got a great new job and things have been hectic!

Woodland Critters Silhouette Card

I recently got the chance to try out the new Stamping Material made for the Silhouette electronic die cutting machine. This thin clear material allows you to die cut images and then stamp with them, very cool! The material cuts really nicely but I must admit I did have some trouble getting the stamps inked up well. Chalk and pigment inks seemed to work the best but dye ink puddled up on the stamps. I did try using a small sponge dauber to apply the dye ink to the stamps (instead of inking directly on the ink pad) and got better results that way. I love the idea of cutting my own stamp designs but I do wish the material gave a better image when stamped.

For my card I used a cute die cut set of woodland critters (I added extra details to them with black and white pens). Here are the stamps themselves. I’ll probably be storing them on acetate sheets in plastic sleeves.

Here’s my second card entry for the C C Designs Summer contest. I used a mermaid and seal stamp set from Sweet November and some Astrobrights metallic papers for the backgrounds, her tail and the seal, they have a wonderful shimmer to them!

It looks like Turner Home Movies has Been Here…….

If you’ve read this blog for any time you probably know how much I love Alice in Wonderland. I especially love the original Tennell illustrations which were published in black and white but sometimes you’ll find a copy with colorized illustrations. I found a small abridged version of Alice with color artwork at an antique store and they are the perfect size for pendants. Here’s a few soldered glass pendants I made recently with them.

Over at the C. C. Designs blog they are having a summertime challenge. I have so many bees buzzing around my garden this time of year, I especially love the big, fat bumblebees! Since bees make me think of summer I made this cute card using a Sweet November fairy with her little bee friend.

Quoting Jane

July 21st, 2013

I adore Jane Austen, the books, the movies, the BBC miniseries, all of it! I have a wonderful Jane inspired stamp set from Oxford Impressions that has Regency style images and quotes from Jane’s books and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite sets. It so much fun to color, especially the womens dresses. I recently made a set of 3 Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s) using them. I stamped the images with black Memento ink on cardstock and colored the images with Spectrum Noir markers (I can not stop using these markers!) and then stamped the quotes onto clear acetate and attached them over the images with brads onto coordinating colored cardstock. I also added a charm to each one that went along with the theme.

Halloween Shadowbox

This time around on the Lawnscaping Challenge blog it’s paper piecing. For me it’s never too early to start thinking about Halloween so I decided to make a Halloween Shadow box using 3 different Lawn Fawn sets, Hebbie Jebbies, Critters in the ‘Burbs and Harvest Season. I can’t wait until Halloween so I can put it on my mantle!

Mermaid and Shells Collage

I’ve been holding on to a bunch a sea shells from a trip to Florida years ago and now I know why I saved them! I stamped the mermaid image from “Stampendous” and colored it with Spectrum Noir markers and added glitter to her tail with a clear Starburst gel marker from Sakura. I adhered vintage map pattern paper from CTMH on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board and inked the edges with a sponge and brown stamping ink and then layered the mermaid image on top. Then using a strong clear glue I added the shells around the edges along with a brass star fish charm and also added some real beach sand under her with the same glue. I laid out my shells before I glued them down to make sure they looked nice and would fit. I also added a snippet of text cut from a vintage book that says “Under the Sea”. I think she turned out really lovely.

This piece is currently for sale in my Etsy shop.
