Let Them Eat Cake

May 6th, 2012

I found a lovely princess image in one of my vintage children’s books recently and thought she looked like Marie Antoinette so I made a mixed media charm necklace with it around that theme. I soldered the illustration in glass and added two other soldered game pieces, a domino I colored blue and stamped a crown on and a round wooden game piece that I added vintage “eat cake” text too, there is also a silver charm of a hand holding a heart.

I’d Like to be Under the Sea…..

April 25th, 2012

It felt so good to stamp today! After spending 6 long weeks recovering from surgery it felt so good to sit down and be creative!

I needed to make a couple of birthday cards and the one I made for my mother in law (who loves the sea and anything nautical) fit perfectly with the latest Lawnscaping challenge Stamp a Scene . All the stamps are from Lawn Fawn’s Critters of the Sea set and all the pattern papers are from My Mind’s Eye.

You Get an A++

February 28th, 2012

I’ve been seeing lots of cool ideas popping up everywhere using chalkboard paint and I thought “I’d like to make something with that stuff”. So the idea popped into my head to add it to something I already make, soldered jewelry. So today I made a chalkboard necklace, it turned out just like I had envisioned, don’t you love when that happens?

Draw or write something new every day, aren’t they fun?

Tim says “Make it Work!”

February 16th, 2012

Here’s my latest collage piece inspired by Tim Gunn’s famous Project Runway quote: “Make it Work!”. The painted wooden tag in the middle has a paper dress with a tiny vintage button that’s hanging on a little wire hanger with a paper tag. I used a lot of vintage sewing items to embellish it like part of a tape measure, spool and wooden clothes pin. The background paper is vintage music sheet.

Don’t Worry BEE Happy!

February 10th, 2012

Here’s a card I made recently for my mom for her birthday, she loves fairies as much as I do and she loves bees and gardening so I thought she’d love this little pixie and bee from Sweet November stamps. The sentiment is from MFT and the pattern paper is from Echo Park.

Do Fairies Eat Jello?

February 3rd, 2012

Awhile ago at an antique shop I picked up a stack of vintage Jello mould tins and have been staring at them trying to figure out what to make. Here’s my first idea, I turned them on their sides and put captured fairies in them with a ribbon loop at the top to hang them from. I added some vintage paper at the back and some faux grass at their feet. I think they turned out pretty sweet.

Caged Cards

February 1st, 2012

Here’s a few Art Cards I made with a cool new bird cage stamp. In the first two I used a template and patterned paper and cut out the bodice of a dress and added it to the top of the cage so it would look like a vintage “cage” dress form. I added a bird inside the cage and a tiny wire hanger to hang it from.

Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland…..

January 25th, 2012

winter wonderland

It seems strange to be making a winter card right now, this has got to be one of the mildest winters in Ky I can ever remember! But the challenge this time over at Lawnscaping is Winter Wonderland so I broke out my Making Frosty Friends and Critters in the Forest sets. This cute little snowy owl is sporting earmuffs and sitting on a tree stump that’s covered in liquid applique snow and glitter. The background paper is from Close To My Heart and I thought it went perfectly with the stamped images.

More Emily…

January 11th, 2012

Here’s another collage inspired by Emily Dickinson. This one is on a chunky canvas and I tried something new for the background, I stitched organza fabric onto of the vintage music paper. I think it adds a nice soft romantic touch. The focal point is a stained wooden tag with vintage book paper, a silhouette on canvas, the quote and a bird charm. I also added a muslin flower with a vintage button and wrapped some lace around the canvas too.
