Here’s my latest collage piece inspired by Tim Gunn’s famous Project Runway quote: “Make it Work!”. The painted wooden tag in the middle has a paper dress with a tiny vintage button that’s hanging on a little wire hanger with a paper tag. I used a lot of vintage sewing items to embellish it like part of a tape measure, spool and wooden clothes pin. The background paper is vintage music sheet.

Thursday, February 16th, 2012Do Fairies Eat Jello?
Friday, February 3rd, 2012Awhile ago at an antique shop I picked up a stack of vintage Jello mould tins and have been staring at them trying to figure out what to make. Here’s my first idea, I turned them on their sides and put captured fairies in them with a ribbon loop at the top to hang them from. I added some vintage paper at the back and some faux grass at their feet. I think they turned out pretty sweet.
Dear Emily,
Friday, January 6th, 2012I adore Emily Dickinson’s poetry. This collage was inspired by one of her most famous quotes. It’s on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board. The main images are of a bird cage and womans silhouette with a bird sitting on top of the cage. I embellished it with vintage measuring tape, a flower I made from muslin and a vintage button and a fountain pen nib.
Playing with Dominoes
Thursday, September 8th, 2011I’m listing some new domino charm jewelry in my Etsy shop this week. And right now I’m working on lots of great new collage art Halloween soldered glass pendants. There are already some in the shop but I’ll listing a lot more in the next week or so, so be sure to check back 🙂
I love this Poe charm, great for Halloween or anyone who loves to read.
And of course Alice is always one of my faves. In addition to the domino charm there are also wooden game tiles with vintage text.
This one is nice and creepy for Halloween, the headless horseman. “Ichabod………..”
And this cute one has scrabble tiles that spell out “BOO” and a cute ghost shaped jingle bell.
More Silhouette Projects
Wednesday, August 4th, 2010Here’s a couple more projects I made with my new Silhouette die cutting machine. I wanted to see just how small I could get the machine to cut so I chose a simple image, the deer silhouette, and was able to cut it 1″ x 1/2″ ! I adhered it to vintage French book paper and put it inside a pre made frame. Isn’t it cute?? I want to try some more like this but soldered them.
Next I had a wonderful wooden cigar box I wanted to make into a specimen box so I layered some patterned paper and card stock inside the box and cut out a few butterflies and a label from the same papers using the Silhouette and mounted everything inside. I love how “old world” it turned out.
So Charming
Monday, June 7th, 2010Here’s a couple of new charm necklaces I’ve made recently. I’m enjoying mixing altered and soldered game pieces and charms together.
The first one is sort of a pun, it’s a skeleton key necklace. A large metal key with a skull charm and a soldered domino charm with dancing skeletons.
This one is all Alice, a tiny glass bottle filled with blue beads and three soldered game charms, a domino with Alice on a blue background, an “A” scrabble tile with vintage “Alice” text and a vintage bingo tile with vintage “drink me” text.
These are both currently available in my Etsy shop, click here to visit.
More from Wonderland
Wednesday, April 14th, 2010Ok, I also can’t seem to stop making things with Alice in Wonderland either 🙂 I’ve been making Alice jewelry and collages for years now and am happy to see a big jump in popularity because of the new Burton movie. Somerset Studio even did another issue with lots of wonderful Alice art, the first Alice issue some years back is still one of my favorites and I still have my dog-eared copy.
Here’s a picture of all of the Wonderland character soldered domino charms I posted about recently:
and here’s a domino ring I made with Alice:
and here’s my favorite, a charm bracelet. It has charms made with shrink plastic, soldered wooden game pieces, a tiny glass bottle, soldered dominoes, vintage King and Queen puzzle pieces, vintage text and silver charms.
All these items are currently for sale in my Etsy shop, click here.
Under a Smiling Moon
Friday, September 11th, 2009Here’s a fun wooden shadow box I made recently. I painted the box grey and then painted crackle paint over that and then inked it to add some more age to it. I had some neat silver tinsel garland and adhered that around the edges of the box. Inside the box I turned an image of a little girl into a witch by adding a black hat and broom and also added a silver smiling moon charm and some black alphabet beads that spell out “Happy Halloween”.
Spellbook
Friday, September 4th, 2009I had a cute little paper mache book ornament that I’d been hanging on to, not sure what to do with it and I finally got the idea to make it into a spellbook for Halloween. I painted the entire book grey and then added crackle paint to the outside, and adhered silver tinsels around the sides. On the front I added an image of a little girl and put a purple witches hat eyelet on her head, I put a purple rhinestone in the hole of the eyelet to cover it up:) I stamped a few skulls on the front with Staz-on ink and added pink and purple rhinestones to their eyes. On the side I added a vintage looking stamped label and wrote “Spellbook”. I thought inside the little witch could be hiding a secret and so I filled a tiny glass bottle with beads and glitter and added some fibers to the top and a tiny label that says “poison” *insert evil witchy laugh* 😉 I think it turned out cute!
Make a Little Birdhouse in Your Soul
Friday, June 12th, 2009Here’s another small altered wooden box I did using Tim Hotz’ crackle paint with a little bird collage inside and a tiny wire nest with blue bead “eggs” and vintage game pieces for feet. See the previous post for another similar box and info on how I made them:
