Here’s a fun wooden shadow box I made recently. I painted the box grey and then painted crackle paint over that and then inked it to add some more age to it. I had some neat silver tinsel garland and adhered that around the edges of the box. Inside the box I turned an image of a little girl into a witch by adding a black hat and broom and also added a silver smiling moon charm and some black alphabet beads that spell out “Happy Halloween”.
Under a Smiling Moon
September 11th, 2009Book Giveaway!!
September 9th, 2009This is my first giveaway on my blog and I’m really excited about it! I recently participated in a design challenge put on by Klutz Publications using their new book “Paper Fashions Fantasy” and they’ve generously donated 2 books for me to giveaway to my readers!!
I really LOVE this book and had so much fun working with it! It’s got fantastic plastic templates, papers, ribbons, beads, sequins. glitter glue and cute little hangers, along with ideas and instructions for making paper doll clothes and accessories especially geared toward fairies, princesses, witches and mermaids (right up my alley, right??:)) For the contest I was inspired by my favorite princess Snow White and one of the best villains ever, the Evil Queen. It was really easy to use the templates and supplies that came with the book to make my own versions of these classic outfits. I will definitely be using this book in the future to add fairy wings, witches hats, crowns and more to my stamped and collage creations.
So if you’d like to be entered to win one of these fun books just leave a comment here on this post starting from now until next Wednesday Sept. 16th at midnight EST, one comment per person please. I’ll randomly draw two winners and announce them on the 17th and you’ll be notified by e-mail if you win so I can get your mailing address. Please note that comments need to be approved before they show up, so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment right away, I will approve them all and you will be entered in the drawing. GOOD LUCK!
And visit the Klutz website for more info on this and other books: http://www.klutz.com/
Spellbook
September 4th, 2009I had a cute little paper mache book ornament that I’d been hanging on to, not sure what to do with it and I finally got the idea to make it into a spellbook for Halloween. I painted the entire book grey and then added crackle paint to the outside, and adhered silver tinsels around the sides. On the front I added an image of a little girl and put a purple witches hat eyelet on her head, I put a purple rhinestone in the hole of the eyelet to cover it up:) I stamped a few skulls on the front with Staz-on ink and added pink and purple rhinestones to their eyes. On the side I added a vintage looking stamped label and wrote “Spellbook”. I thought inside the little witch could be hiding a secret and so I filled a tiny glass bottle with beads and glitter and added some fibers to the top and a tiny label that says “poison” *insert evil witchy laugh* 😉 I think it turned out cute!
Getting a Jump on Halloween
August 28th, 2009My favorite holiday is Halloween, so much so my hubby and I got married the evening before. I can’t believe that was almost 5 years ago now 🙂 I really think I could make Halloween art all year round so I love to get a early start on items for my Etsy shop.
Here’s more of the soldered pendants I’ve been working on:
A couple more dictionary illustration, this time a black bird. On the back I added sheet music and the words “blackbird singing” for a Beatles inspiration
an adorable tiny bat illustration ( I LOVE this one so much!:))
The rest are vintage illustrations from a children’s story book.
A witch riding her broom in front of the moon, I added the words “happy Halloween”
A big happy smiling Jack O Lantern
a cute black kitten with a big orange pumpkin, I added the word “boo”
Look it up in the Dictionary
August 23rd, 2009Wow, where has August gone?? I’ve been so busy and I’ve really neglected my blog, sorry!
This week I was a soldering fool 🙂 and made a ton of new pendants, I’ll be posting them here and for sale in my Etsy shop ( http://www.PisforPaper.etsy.com ) over the next week or so. I wanted to get a little early start on Halloween so alot of them are for my favorite holiday, Halloween!
I’ve been continuing to cut up the fabulous vintage dictionary I got awhile ago and here are a few pendants with some of the wonderful illustrations.
This is very Poe inspired, plus I have a thing for ravens and crows. The back includes the definition for “nevermore”
Really pretty owl illustration
and a funny one, a concertina with the words “I heart Polka” added 🙂
Make it Work!!
July 23rd, 2009I’m a HUGE fan a Project Runway and I LOVE Tim Gunn, I want to go shopping with him:) So I made this soldered collage pendant inspired by his famous line on the show “Make it work!”. The background on the front is from a vintage dictionary, the definition for “stitch”, and I added a piece of vintage tape measure and a tag with string that says “make it work”. The back is cut from a tissue paper pattern and I added the word “sew”. On the bottom of the pendant I added a tiny safety pin and a scissors charm. I love the way it turned out! 🙂
Lots More New Pendants
July 21st, 2009Here’s some more of my new collaged and soldered pendants.
I really love these first two, they are tiny collages done on vintage French book paper, I added lots of brown ink to age them even more, stamped postage cancellation marks and a tiny stamped vintage looking label and added numbers to them so they looked like old specimen labels. One features a bird, the other a butterfly:
here’s another fairy with an attitude, she’s got a bored look on her face and I added the word “whatever”, cut from a vintage dictionary:
and lastly something a little different for me, a tiny paper piecing of a house and a tree, I cut and punched them out of cardstock and patterned papers, the background is vintage French book paper. I also added a small metal key to the bottom:
More New Pendants
July 14th, 2009Just a quick post to share some more of the pendants I made last week.
This one is from a vintage dictionary, I cut out the picture of the artists palette and added the words ” make art every day”
this next one I called “Madam Butterfly”, it’s a vintage Geisha image, I added wings to her and a tiny mulberry paper flower, the background is cut from an Asian book I found at the used book store. I also added a kanji charm to the bottom
