Look it up in the Dictionary

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Wow, where has August gone?? I’ve been so busy and I’ve really neglected my blog, sorry!

This week I was a soldering fool 🙂 and made a ton of new pendants, I’ll be posting them here and for sale in my Etsy shop ( http://www.PisforPaper.etsy.com ) over the next week or so. I wanted to get a little early start on Halloween so alot of them are for my favorite holiday, Halloween!

I’ve been continuing to cut up the fabulous vintage dictionary I got awhile ago and here are a few pendants with some of the wonderful illustrations.

This is very Poe inspired, plus I have a thing for ravens and crows. The back includes the definition for “nevermore”

Lots More New Pendants

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Here’s some more of my new collaged and soldered pendants.

I really love these first two, they are tiny collages done on vintage French book paper, I added lots of brown ink to age them even more, stamped postage cancellation marks and a tiny stamped vintage looking label and added numbers to them so they looked like old specimen labels. One features a bird, the other a butterfly:

here’s another fairy with an attitude, she’s got a bored look on her face and I added the word “whatever”, cut from a vintage dictionary:

and lastly something a little different for me, a tiny paper piecing of a house and a tree, I cut and punched them out of cardstock and patterned papers, the background is vintage French book paper. I also added a small metal key to the bottom:

She Runs with Scissors

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Here’s a super fun pendant I made recently, it would be perfect for anyone who does any kind of paper crafts, sewing, school teacher,  hair dresser, etc.. I took an image of a girl from a vintage dictionary and drew a tiny pair of scissors in her hand. I cut the words “runs with scissors” from the same dictionary but wanted them to stand out more so I backed them with black cardstock. I sandwiched it between glass and soldered the piece and then added a really cool gold scissors charm to the bottom, the scissors actually open and close, neat huh? 🙂

Naturally

Here’s a few soldered glass pendants I did this week, each  with a nature theme.

This one is an illustration from a vintage children’s book from 1929, it’s a sweet girl kneeling in the water at the ocean’s edge and she’s holding up a star fish, I added the words “mermaid dreams” cut from a vintage dictionary.

This one is also from a vintage children’s book, it’s a fawn running through the forest and I added the words “Oh, deer”.

This last one is a illustration from a really cool nature book from 1934, it’s a spiders web in a meadow, there’s even a tiny spider in the web, I think it’s a really unique and lovely illustration.

On the Corner

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

I’ve started turning some of my square pendants on their corners to make them look more diamond shape and give them a bit more interest. Here’s a couple of fairy pendants done like this:

On the Wing

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I think it’s pretty obvious I love things with wings, birds, bees, insects, fairies, etc. I’m not sure why but there’s just something about wings to me. Here’s three totally different pieces of soldered jewelry I’ve done recently but they all have wings in them:)

This first one is a fairy. On a piece of vintage French book paper I took an image of a sweet girl and added big wings to her and the word “specimen.” cut from a vintage dictionary then I hand drew her some antenna and soldered around with scalloped tape, I added a key charm to the bottom.

This next one is a tiny bird on a wire cut from a children’s book from 1929, a page number was at the bottom so I covered it with the word “sing” and soldered around with scalloped tape.

This last one is another shadow box pendant. I used an image of bees and honeycomb from an old field guide and added a pewter bee charm over top and the word “queen” and layered it on yellow and black cardstock. I love the dimension on this one!

Into the Woods

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Woodland animals and themes are so hot right now and I love them! Lots of deer, mushrooms, squirrels, etc, so cute! So I’ve made some more  pendants with some woodland critter illustrations cut from that same vintage 1929 children’s book I’ve been using alot lately (poor book looks like swiss cheese now:))

Cute little squirrel in a red jacket and black pants, the back says “Mr. Bushy Tail”:

A little fawn, this is one of my favorite!:

I really want to find some vintage images of some mushrooms to make some pendants with, I love mushrooms, they always remind me of Alice in Wonderland:)

Button Up

Friday, February 6th, 2009

I recently went through some stuff I had stored in my dad’s basement and found my old button jar. It’s a huge mason jar with tons of vintage buttons in it, I was so glad to find it:) I made a couple of soldered pendants with a couple of the more unusual ones.

This first one appears to be a shell button (maybe mother of pearl), the back side was pitted, dirty and had some cool green running through it. I cut the word “curiosity” from an old dictionary and added it to the button, glued it to a piece of vintage French book paper and sandwiched it between glass and using a wider tape than normal soldered around it. It makes for a very cool shadow box look I think.

The second one also looks to be shell, it’s white with a little sparkle to it and has a beautiful embossed design in it.

Once Upon a Time

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I recently found a wonderful children’s story book from 1929 that has some beautiful illustrations in it and decided to use them for some soldered pendants, on the backs I added words I cut out from the stories.

This first one was about the story of a little bunny who wanted red wings, on the back it says “I wish I had a pair of little red wings”

Photobucket

This next one is a pretty red fox who was down and thinking, the back says “the fox thought and thought”

Photobucket

This one is a cute little grey squirrel and the back says “Mr. Bushy Tail”

These unique pendants are currently on sale in my Etsy shop:

I Heart You

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Here’s some more soldered collage jewelry for Valentine’s Day.

I love old movies and I really LOVE Cary Grant, he’s one of my all time favorite actors so I thought he’d make a great pendant. I used scrapbook paper for the background it has hearts and word all over, added a wonderful pic of Cary and I also cut out the words “Heart Throb” from an old dictionary.

Photobucket

This next one features an image of a sweet couple that I punched out in a heart shape over old book paper and I stamped the words “Key to My Heart”. The edged are done with scalloped soldering and a tiny key dangles from the bottom.
