More Ornaments

November 8th, 2008

Here are some more of the soldered Christmas ornaments I’ve been working on. The first is the little brother of the girl in the Santa hat, don’t they make a cute pair?

This next one is made using a microscope slide, but I turned it on it’s side. I used an image of a little girl and free hand cut some large paper wings for her from a vintage book. She’s on distressed blue cardstock and has gold stars around her and the word “Joy”.

The last one is an image of a pretty woman wrapped up for winter in her coat with a beautiful big bow on her head. The words says “Merry and Bright” and there is a snowflake charm hanging below, I added Stickels to it to make it glittery.

Christmas Already!?

November 6th, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. something was wrong with our provider and I couldn’t get to the site for some time. Seems to be working now:)

I’ve been working on Christmas items this week, made some hanging postcard collages with some cute vintage Santa images (similar to the ones from Christmas in July) and this one with a cute winter fairy:

And also soldered alot of ornaments, here are two of them. The first is a cute little girl with a glittery Santa hat and it says “Merry”. The second is a pretty little angel with glittery wings and gold stars, it says “Jouful”. I got lucky recently and found a wonderful vintage book of sheet music and used pieces of it for the backgrounds on the ornaments.

Soldering Away pt.3

October 19th, 2008

Here’s the last of the jewelry I made this week, all cute animals:)

The first is a Queen Bee pin, I used images from an old field guide of a bee and honey comb, there is also a gold bee hive charm hanging from it.

The next two pins are made with adorable kitty and doggie pictures with the words “Best Friend”. I added black patina to the solder of all these pins, I love the aged look it adds.

Soldering Away pt.2

October 16th, 2008

Here’s a couple more of the solder pieces I made yesterday. The first one is a group of pretty fairy friends with the words “Joy is great friends”, I added some orange and pink shades of ink to the old book page to add more color and tie it all together. I also soldered around a very old vintage button (that still has thread in it!) and hung that from the bottom.

The next one is another Paris themed collage with two lovers standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, there is a postage cancellation on the glass itself and some pretty beads ( one is heart shaped) hanging below.

Soldering the Day Away

October 15th, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile, I’ve had the flu:( Today’s the first chance I’ve had to work on any collage stuff so I made several soldered pins and necklaces today. I’ll post them all over the next few days but here’s my last Halloween one for the year. A cute little witch pin (I named her “Witchy Poo”) holding a big pumpkin, soldered between microscope slides and a black patina added to the solder.

and another piece, a necklace with a tiny dancing fairy on her tippy toes on a hill as a butterfly goes by. The charm says “Imagine”.

Haunted House

October 2nd, 2008

I found some really cool paper mache house shapes at the craft store and thought they’d be fun to collage on. I made this haunted house yesterday. I’ll probably make some Christmasy ones soon too. For the Haunted House I painted it black, covered the front and back with pages from a very old vintage book. I cut out windows from yellow cardstock and wrapped them with ribbon. I cut out scalloped strips and made gables and window awnings, all popped up for dimension. The front door and house number are painted chipboard. I stamped a raven on the front of the house and a fence on the back. Then finally I turned an old image of a little girl into a witch and added a pumpkin embellishment. I love the way it turned out!

More Halloween Jewelry

September 22nd, 2008

I worked on some more soldered jewelry for Halloween today. I made another fun witch with the word “Wicked” and an old rusty star in a microscope slide pendant, I stamped an image of Edgar Allen Poe with a raven on his head on an old book page with the word “Nevermore” and cut a microscope slide in half to make a smaller pendant for a cute little wizard in a starry hat, his says “Cast a Spell”. I added a black patina to the solder to make them black and aged looking.

Patina is easy to use, it’s a liquid that comes in a bottle (you can get it on-line or at a stain glass store), just put some on a cotton ball and rub it on clean solder, it changes color right away by a cool chemical reaction.

The Moon is Out

September 15th, 2008

I did this Halloween collage last night. I painted the 4×5 canvas with blue paint and then used some of Tim Holtz’s cool new “Old Paper” crackle paint over it, and then aged it with inks. I used an image of an adorable little girl and sat her on some toadstools I had stamped and colored and added some torn old book pages on the bottom. Then added a hat to my girl and a brass toad charm in her lap. I added some grosgrain ribbon around the canvas edges to hide the staples so it doesn’t need to be framed. Isn’t she cute?:)
