Easter Border Card

The current challenge at the Lawnscaping Challenge blog is dusting off supplies you haven’t used in awhile. For my card I got out some yellow flocking powder which I haven’t used in ages and also some decorative edged scissors, which I also just don’t pick up as much any more, even though I probably have 8-10 pairs. I used stamps from the Lawn Fawn “Happy Easter” set, adding flocking to the little chicks, now they’re yellow and fuzzy! 🙂

To make this card:

cut a piece of green cardstock in half and fold for the card base

trim a floral pattern paper to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and  adhere to card front

trim white cardstock to 5 1/2″ x 1″, line up flowers, eggs and chicks stamps on one long clear block and stamp twice with black ink

color all images exept chicks with markers

using a glue pen add glue to chicks and cover with yellow flocking powder, lightly press down and then tap off excess, let dry

cut blue cardstock to 5 1/2″ and cut one long edge with decorative scalloped scissors, punch small holes in each scallop

adhere stamped piece to blue piece and adhere to card front

stamp sentiment in black on card front

The Birds and the Bees

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

I got out my bees wax last week and made some encaustic collages.

The first is on a small 3×3 canvas with a blue bird and cage on vintage music sheet paper and a quote from William Blake. I coated the entire front with melted wax and then wrapped the edges with ribbon and added a vintage wooden game piece.

This next one I wanted to look like a page from a naturalists notebook. It’s a small canvas board on top of a larger canvas board, both covered in wax. The quote is on fabric and I added some faux grass for the nest, some scrabble tiles, part of a wooden measuring stick and ink pen nib.

Make a Little Birdhouse in Your Soul

Here’s another small altered wooden box I did using Tim Hotz’ crackle paint with a little bird collage inside and a tiny wire nest with blue bead “eggs” and vintage game pieces for feet. See the previous post for another similar box and info on how I made them:

A Little Something Different

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I wanted to make something a little different than what I normally make with my soldering and decided to make a wall hanging, it was inspired by a piece from Sally Jean who is an amazing collage and soldering artist. I took 3 glass panels, each 3″ x 1″ and cut backgrounds for them from vintage French book paper and added the words “Home” “Tweet” and “Home” to each, on the last one I also added a cute little bird nest with blue eggs. I soldered each panel with scalloped edge solder and soldered jump rings to each then attached the panels together with more jump rings, hung a chain from the top and a tiny silver bird charm from the bottom. I’m thrilled with how it came out! 🙂
