A while ago a friend cleaned out her craft closet and gave me lots of cool stuff to play with. One of the things she gave me was a bag of angel wings she’d removed from some old ornaments. It took awhile to figure out what I wanted to do with them but I got the crazy idea to mount a small canvas on the front and I came up with…The Queen of Flight. There’s layers of vintage paper, felt, rhinestones, book text, a vintage button and a charm dangling from the bottom too. I think she’s ready to take flight!

Caged Cards
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012Here’s a few Art Cards I made with a cool new bird cage stamp. In the first two I used a template and patterned paper and cut out the bodice of a dress and added it to the top of the cage so it would look like a vintage “cage” dress form. I added a bird inside the cage and a tiny wire hanger to hang it from.
This card uses a quote from William Blake and I added a blue bird and some tiny black alphabet beads.

Soar High
Saturday, January 7th, 2012Here’s another recent collage. Guess I’m on a quote kick, this one is inspired by a William Blake quote. It’s on 5″ x 7″ canvas board painted grey with vintage music sheet background. The cage is on a transparency and it’s embellished with a silver bird charm, metal key, metal clip, vintage measuring tape and letter beads.
Fly Free
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010I just can’t seem to stop making things with birds 🙂 Here are a couple of new mixed media necklaces I made last week.
I enjoyed making my Alice in Wonderland Domino charms so much I used a larger domino, inked it blue and stamped a really cool flying bird on it and then soldered around the edges, adding two sets of jump rings to the top to hang from the ball chain. I also adhered a glass rhinestone to the front for a little added bling:
I also made this necklace with a pretty silver bird charm and a tiny soldered word charm that says “fly away” on vintage music paper, also on a ball chain:
Challenged to Fly
Thursday, June 4th, 2009I belong to a mixed media artist group on Etsy called Melange and each Wednesday we have a challenge word and everyone makes an art piece based on that word. This weeks word is “Fly”, which happens to be a favorite word of mine, I use it often in my work. I made two pieces for the challenge, both Art Cards, using some really fun small bingo cards I bought at a convention a few years ago and some cool black and white alphabet beads. Be sure to visit the Melange Team blog : http://melangeonetsy.blogspot.com/ and click on the comments to visit my fellow artists blogs and see what they made for the challenge. Also please feel free to participate in the challenge yourself, you do not need to be a member, just link to your artwork in the comments section too.
my first card is a cute fairy flying a butterfly:
my other card is a bird inside a cage:
Challenge Combo
Friday, April 24th, 2009I’ve been trying to participate lately in more “challenges”, it’s where a website or group picks a theme, idea or product and everyone makes something based around it and then shares their art. It’s so much fun to see all the different ideas others come up with all based around the same theme.
My “Artchix” yahoo group has a current challenge called “Go Fly a Kite” and my Melange team from Etsy has a challenge called “Ticket” and an idea came to me to combine the two and so I made this ATC called “Flight Ticket”.
Please visit the Melange team website and click on the “Mix it up with Melange” post comments section to find links to other participants art work: http://melangeonetsy.blogspot.com/ each Wednesday a new challenge will be posted.

On the Corner
Thursday, April 9th, 2009I’ve started turning some of my square pendants on their corners to make them look more diamond shape and give them a bit more interest. Here’s a couple of fairy pendants done like this:
and a also a new bird pendant too, not on it’s corner:
all three pendants have vintage paper backgrounds and words cut from a vintage dictionary.
They are all currently for sale in my Etsy Shop:
